Overview

Also known as: Efrit, Ifrid, Ifriit, Efrite

See also: Djinn (general)

Ifrit (pronounced EH-freet) Djinn are the fire elementals of the Djinn world. Ifrit are neither good nor evil, and air on the side of rebelliousness. They are the most versatile Djinn and easiest to bind to physical vessels (like dolls or jewelry).

Ifrit present as large, flame-like humanoid beings. Sometimes Ifrit manifest with wings. Sometimes they have the elongated face of a lizard. For the most part, they retain a human form when interacting with people.

They are the most susceptible to Magick of their Djinn brethren, which is why they are so often bound to our world by spirit keepers.

Differentiation From Other Djinn

Ifrit Djinn are powerful beings who correspond to the fire element. They are often drawn into the physical world through alchemical fire rituals or through burned ruins of buildings or cities.

Ifrit were among the first to rebel against humans, but some sects have come to see humans as equals or even greater in spiritual stature stature. Most Ifrit are docile and enjoy being bound to the physical world. Others are more unforgiving and will not bend to a human’s will.

Ifrit exist in a plainly laid out hierarchy, consisting of Kings, tribes, and clans. Ancient Arabic society was actually modeled after the Ifrit. Inside these hierarchies, Ifrit often battle for dominance. They use their cunning and strength to subjugate one another. Most Ifrit Djinn Kings are overthrown soon after they receive their post.

Unlike the Jann, for example, Ifrit are highly-susceptible to Magick and human influence. This allows them to more easily interact with humans and be bound to physical vessels.

Powers & Abilities of the Ifrit

The Ifrit are best known for their wish-granting abilities. They ask little in return for their power and are versatile in their petitioning. They are also highly capable wealth-drawing entities. Secret societies are well-known to call upon Ifrit and Marid when integrating new members.

Ifrit are also wise, but aggressive. They can bestow spiritual guidance. Be sure that your personality lines up with them or you strive to be more aggressive before putting their advice into action.

Ifrit are well-known to manipulate energy, as well. Once your Ifrit is bound to you, you will see that you need less sleep, are more resilient and physically stronger, and generally more energetic.

Specific Offerings & Spirit Care Guidelines

Offerings: Red wine, cinnamon, spices (cayenne, chili, etc.), coffee, white sugar, black tea

Communication: Pendulum, EVP, dream-state contact, astral contact, automatic writing, sand divination (geomancy), petitioning, and candlework.

Are Ifrit a Good Match For Me?

I am as sure as I can be when I say, “Yes.” Ifrit are the most versatile entity used in common spirit keeping practices today. Although they can be a little reckless, they are active, communicative, and easy to work with. If you are simply seeking paranormal activity, then Ifrit will suit you. If you want to go further and develop a spirit keeping practice, then I would recommend performing spells and rituals with Ifrit Djinn over any other entity.

When you begin moving up the hierarchy with Alpha and King Ifrit, you may want to have some experience with a traditional Ifrit first. Not that the higher Ifrit are dangerous, you just may want to acclimate yourself to the lower ones first. If you do consider yourself adventurous, you can start off with an Ifrit King of you so choose.
