Spirit Acknowledgement

The Easiest Way to Bond With Your Spiritual Companion

If you have received spirits from me before, you have probably been told to acknowledge your new spiritual companions. Here’s why:

What is Spirit Acknowledgement?

Spirit acknowledgement is the simple act of recognizing your spirit. I get questions every day about how to bond with spirit companions properly. The first thing I always say is “Acknowledge them daily.”

The acknowledgement of spirits goes way back in history—all the way back to the beginning when spirit keeping was known more commonly as familiar work. These Witches, even further back than Babylonian or Sumerian times, were constantly working with supernatural companions.

If you read the old literature, you will see that Witches often worked with Demons, Angels, Ancestor Spirits, and others. This practice has evolved into what we know today as Spirit Keeping.

“The first thing I always say is “Acknowledge them daily.”

The act of acknowledging your spirits can be done in many ways. I’ll start with the most simple and lead up to more complicated methods:

You may say your spirit companion’s name out loud. You can write them a message, similar to journaling. You can have a communication session, preferably something quick with a pendulum or dowsing.

You can conduct a Candle Magick ritual with them in mind at your altar. You may meditate with them, especially if your spirit is vessel-bound.

The possibilities are really endless here. Any ritual or contact you have with them will count as an acknowledgement.

What is the Point of Spirit Acknowledgement?

The point, as mentioned earlier, is to give them energy. Spirits thrive off the collective energy that you give them.

I’ll give you an example that you have probably heard of before, but didn’t realize this was happening:

If you do not know what poltergeists are, they are entities (mostly passed human spirits) that died in a miserable fashion. The most famous real-life example of this is the Enfield Poltergeist. I believe there is a famous movie based on this haunting.

This poltergeist constantly bothered, harassed, and even physically harmed the inhabitants of a home. But, what they didn’t realize, is that they were constantly talking about the poltergeist and giving it acknowledgement.

Because of that, the family had to get the help of the famed demonologists, Ed and Lorraine Warren (who I despise, but that’s another blog post). And they continued making the mistake of acknowledging this entity and giving it power.

If you haven’t got the point, they should have just ignored the poltergeist 😉

“Spirits thrive off the collective energy that you give them.”

As you can see, the acknowledgement here worked against the victim of this poltergeist’s favor. And you can use their example in your favor. If you have a positive spirit, you can use the acknowledgement principle to make them active for you.

If you have a negative spirit, you can ignore them and they will leave you alone. For the most part. Sometimes, it will not work completely, but it will at least take their power away.

How Does Spirit Acknowledgement Give Spirits Energy?

This is a good question. If I knew the actual physics involved, I would probably be awarded a Nobel prize. I am not going to pretend I know the minute details for how this works, but what I can tell you is that it does work.

The best way I can put this without sounding like a know-it-all is that the things we give attention to are strengthened by our mental (or spiritual) energy. Think about it this way: if you are obsessed with people using coasters when they come to your house, you are bound to notice when they do not use them, right?

You are giving mental energy to an idea, thus, it will manifest more often before you. The same goes for spirits. The more attention you give them, the more they will interact with you.

“…things we give attention to are strengthened by our…energy.”

This can go the other way, though. Too much attention and your spirit will withdraw. This is what I call the epidemic in the spirit keeping community: expectant energy.

Not everyone gets the balance right at first. You cannot hold it against yourself if you feel like you are doing all the acknowledgement in the world and your spirit still isn’t being as active as you want. You must experiment to find the correct ratio of attention and acknowledgement.

Hopefully this little explanation will shed some light on why I am constantly telling everyone to acknowledge their spirit companions.

Love + Blessings,

Laci
