Overview

Originally named Gargouille or Goji, the Gargoyle is a protective entity called upon by humans for protection before the dawn of civilization.

Origins

The Gargoyle is first traced back to a French man named St. Romanus. In this “legend” St. Romanus was said to have fought off a Gargoyle from taking over the lands occupied by the former King, Clotaire II.

Druids, like the Egyptians and Babylonians before them, used Gargoyles to guard their homes and valuables. These peoples called upon them as familiars, which was the original form of spirit keeping.

St. Romanus led an army to destroy the Druid culture in France. And he did. Afterwards, he used the Gargoyle as his trophy for massacring thousands. To this day, representations of the Gargoyle are used on buildings.

Physical Characteristics

Gargoyles run the gamut of physical characteristics. Most commonly, they look bestial with humanoid heads and large, lion like bodies and bat-like wings. Although, some Gargoyles are reported to have more bird-like features.

Some are adorned with large ram-like horns. Some have forked tails. Some have large fangs and talons. Their appearance is similar to the Greek Chimaera, which is often thought to be mistaken for the Gargoyle (although the Chimaera is often shown to be much larger than a Gargoyle).

Powers & Abilities

Gargoyles are almost solely focused on guardianship and protection from malevolent entities and people. They do, however, have some lesser known abilities. Some have been seen to create Luck and Karma Healing auras. And, further, some Gargoyles have been seen to practice healing chanting.

These abilities are highly individualistic and you should consult with your summoner if you expect any of these abilities.

Personality & Nature

Gargoyles are cognizant beings, each with their own dislikes and likes and emotions. Gargoyles are typically quiet creatures. They like attention, but not too much.

Gargoyles are also gruff beings. They do not like weakness. When they are around you, you will feel stronger. If you display weakness around a Gargoyle, they are less likely to serve you as well.

Offerings & Spirit Care Guidelines

Gargoyles, like all spirits and entities you will keep, require specific offerings and spirit care methods to make sure they are energized.

Offerings: terragon, herbes de provence, saffron, dark red wine, and stout beer

Communication: Gargoyles will communicate via pendulum, EVP, spirit board, dowsing, dream-state contact, astral contact, petitioning, and candlework.

Are Gargoyles a Good Match For Me?

If you are someone seeking protection from a loyal and quiet entity, then the answer is a resounding yes! Gargoyles are low-maintenance protectors, as opposed to Angels, and make great companions. They are proven entities that go way back in Witchcraft and spirit keeping/familiarship tradition.

It would be hard to go wrong with one, especially if you are a person who suffers from anxiety.
